Lancelot is presented as a wandering young man who "knows when a woman wants him" and cannot understand Guenevere's refusal of him time and time again. This is a Hollywood family movie, with 3 great stars, fancy costumes, beautiful scenery and great music. I don't see why people are making so much noise against this movie. Lancelot defeats Malagant's guards and manages to escape with Guinevere, eventually returning her to Camelot. While it is not the traditional repeat of the sword and stone movie with Arther being the one main character, I think this great new vision of the story is brilliant.

In a number of versions of a popular episode, Maleagant abducts King Arthur’s wife, Queen Guinevere, necessitating her rescue by Arthur and his knights. Julia gives an outstanding performance, every expression she makes gives such depth to her character Guinevere.

I am a regular Hollywood movie buff, and heavily rely on IMDb user ratings, before watching any movie than relying on any other sources, and I prefer to watch movies which are usually rated at least 7 out of 10. Lancelot defeats Malagant's guards and manages to escape with Guinevere, eventually returning her to Camelot. Same with the construction of the round table room. I've never heard people say : "The musical version of The Three Musketeers with Gene Kelly isn't faithful to the book". Merlin and the Sword were key players in the typical Arthur legend, but this adaptation is good because Morgana often confuses people.

Don't bother looking for an attempt to create a more realistic, historical viewpoint of ancient Britain, either. It seems to me that people today just can't enjoy that kind of entertainment anymore.

If you're looking for Merlin, Excalibur, and the Holy Grail, don't look here.

Malagant is a former Knight of the Round Table who once served King Arthur in Camelot, but turned rebel after becoming jealous of the king. Towards the end of the film, Malagant invades Camelot with his men and forces Arthur to bow before him or else he will die and Camelot will be torched. A very pleasing all-around movie is how I found this Knights Of The Roundtable-type story and a good one for DVD, even one that's been on disc for quite some time. Was this review helpful? Guinevere (Julia Ormond) the ruler of Lyonesse, decides to marry Arthur partly out of admiration and partly for security against Malagant, who is shown raiding a village. No magic, and it all could really happen. And i think many are more likely to believe this version than the others. I have spent a considerable amount of time studying the old, medieval tellings of the legend, as well as researching the 'real' Arthur (who existed pre-medieval, around the 6th or 7th century) and I enjoyed this interpretation.

Maleagant (spelled Meliagant or Meliaganz) first appears under that name in Lancelot, the Knight of the Cart by Chrétien de Troyes, where he brings Guinevere to his impenetrable castle. Lancelot wins the respect of the other Knights with his prowess in battle. This spectacular production from Jerry Zucker that gave you ¨Ghost and Airplane¨ among others and only Columbia TriStar could bring it so magnificently to the screen including a majestic soundtrack and splendid cinematography . On the return journey, it is revealed that Lancelot was orphaned and rendered homeless after bandits attacked his village, and has been wandering ever since. To be fair,Mr Gere spends quite a lot of time ruefully grinning,but he is rather good at it so why not?
Sure it has some flaws in it, but that doesn't detract from some brilliant acting and enjoyable story line. Later, Lancelot arrives in Camelot and successfully navigates an obstacle course on the prospect of a kiss from Guinevere, though he instead kisses her hand.
