It's hard to believe that Tom Hardy and Michael Peterson - alias Charles Bronson - became good friends. Tom Hardy is a talented actor, Nicholas Refn continues to direct to perfection, and now that I've seen the film I would love to hear that Charlie Bronson will be released at some point. Absolutely not worth a single penny to watch. I could not recommend it enough!

During this time, his own personality is supplanted by his alter-ego, Charles Bronson. My husband and I love this movie and have watched it a few times before, on Netflix, so we recently decided to purchase it. All Commercial Free, No Log In! Tom Hardy is what makes this film as good as it is; I don't think the film would have worked with anyone else.... Hardy to put on the character of Bronson was excellent. He is an amazing actor So the film may have sold the real man short, but Hardy gives it his all for better or for worse of that depiction and seems to be staying true to his view of the man in his performance and that's really what makes the film worth watching. Tom Hardy took this to a deep place mentally, as a thespian physically and transcended mere screen acting. It is an interesting film that runs us through his troublesome upbringing and detention at Her Majesty's pleasure but I think the film loses the plot a bit when he dresses as a man and a woman and relates a stage of his life to an invisible audience. Boring, as much as I love Tom Hardy and the story of mr. Bronson and his criminal career and psychopathy this film completely misses the Target on capturing who he is was and the atrocities that he committed let alone be psychological and pathological impact he had on society and how it addresses the mentally ill.

I bought this DVD because it was recommended to me by someone who knows I'm a fan of Tom Hardy.

Hardy played the role incredibly well & I can see why critics compared it to Clockwork Orange.

Its as simple as that. Charles Bronson was an American actor who gained fame for portraying vigilante-type characters in revenge-oriented movies.

And that scenario alone opens up all of the questions of volition, English society, genetics, the works. I have been interested in charlie bronson due to working with prisoners and this gives a good insight into his life.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but this film is one of Nicholas Winding Refn's lighter efforts.

The hard reality and quite possibly the intent of the movie, or could be a dismal failure in this respect, is that I failed to really see any empathy for Britain's Most Famous & Violent Prisoner. 22 of 27 people found this review helpful. Instead, the film portrays Bronson as a caricature of the ultimate hard man: violent for the sake of violence. I must say I was not disappointed! The film does keep you gripped to it but this guy is definately one man you don't want to meet in a dark alley. Set in Depression-era Franklin County, Virginia, a trio of bootlegging brothers are threatened by a new special deputy and other authorities angling for a cut of their profits. Although this is a film adaptaion of his life, Mr. Bronson (name changed to be more intimidating) is definately off his trolley. NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED. Why I am not entitely satisfied : total lack of subtitles - as someone with (so far) only a slight hearing impairment, it is very tiring to try to follow dialogue especially when slang, dialect or poor articulation is present.
